Sticks'n'Sushi in Berlin represents the fusion of Japanese sushi tradition and Danish culinary culture. With three locations in Charlottenburg, Tiergarten, and Mitte, the restaurant chain from Copenhagen has long since won over the city.
Japanese Sushi Meets Nordic Design: What’s Behind the Concept?
Sticks’n’Sushi was founded in 1994 in a Copenhagen basement by Danish-Japanese brothers Jens and Kim Rahbek, along with Thor Andersen. Since then, the concept has spread far beyond Denmark, and Berlin is now firmly part of the Sticks’n’Sushi family. With three locations, the flagship restaurant on Potsdamer Straße, the slightly smaller and more personal restaurant on Kantstraße, and the newest and most intimate offshoot on Torstraße are represented. What connects all three locations: the characteristic blend of Danish hygge and Japanese minimalism. Sticks’n’Sushi goes far beyond classic sushi. Fresh sushi, grilled yakitori skewers, crisp salads, and sweet desserts land on the plate. The result is a menu that appeals to both sushi enthusiasts and people who usually don’t care much for raw fish.
What Awaits Guests When Visiting a Sushi Restaurant in Berlin?
Whoever enters Sticks’n’Sushi on Potsdamer Straße immediately notices: someone here thinks outside the box. The restaurant is very spacious, with a large dining room and additional seating on the gallery on the first floor. The interior is kept simple yet chic: dark furniture between white and gray walls, a freestanding bar, and an elongated open kitchen. Those who prefer something quieter are well-served at the Charlottenburg offshoot. On Kantstraße and in the Charlottenburg district, diversity is paramount, nestled between cultural institutions and art-house cinemas. The newest location on Torstraße in Berlin Mitte also impresses with a special spatial concept: the design of the new location is inspired by the layout of Japanese residential areas and welcomes guests with warm, earthy tones. Additionally, Sticks’n’Sushi also offers takeaway, so fresh sushi from Berlin can be enjoyed just as well in the park. The chefs from Copenhagen, London, and Berlin have complemented the most popular sushi and yakitori highlights with exciting new creations and also offer even more vegetarian and vegan dishes on the menu.
