The concept of unsicht-Bar at the foot of Prenzlauer Berg is based on switching off the sense of sight, so that taste, smell, and hearing are addressed more intensely. What sounds abstract unfolds astonishingly concretely at the table. If you know whether you chose beef, poultry, fish, or vegetarian when ordering, you’ll know next to nothing afterward. Without a show and without distraction, you concentrate entirely on your own senses: tasting, smelling, feeling, and hearing. Every bite becomes an experience, every sound a discovery.

Using clock positions, the blind service staff explains the placement of objects on the table so that guests can find their way in the darkness. This is not a gimmick, but sheer necessity. The team, consisting of blind and visually impaired service staff, ensures a safe and pleasant atmosphere and competently guides guests through the evening. The fact that table conversations gain a new quality is a welcome side effect: without eye contact, you simply listen better.

The unsicht-Bar Berlin: More Than Just a Dinner

Those who wish can stick to the classic experience. An exquisite 4-course menu in complete darkness can be enjoyed without a show, with full focus on taste, smell, touch, and sound. In addition, there are evenings with a show or live music in the dark. On Thursdays, there is a Crime Dinner with the show “Shadow of Death” for 80 Euros per person, and on Saturdays, a dinner with a music program called “Hit the Night”, also for 80 Euros. On Fridays and Mondays, dinner can also be booked without a show, from 60 Euros per person.

Particularly noteworthy is the theater format: two members of the acting ensemble “Die Unsicht-Baren” slip into countless roles, bringing old Berlin to life around the guests. Perhaps the murderer is sitting right next door. The crime play is based on an original case, researched in Berlin city archives, libraries, and the police museum.
