Since 1997, Tadim on Adalbertstraße, right by Kottbusser Tor in Kreuzberg, has been serving one of Berlin's most authentic döners. No hype, just homemade bread, 100% veal, and a lahmacun that is unparalleled in the capital.
Tadim at Kotti: Kreuzberg Institution for almost Three Decades
If you want to eat döner in Kreuzberg, you’re spoiled for choice. But at Kottbusser Tor, there’s been no getting around Tadim for years. Tadim on Adalbertstraße has been an integral part of the neighborhood since 1997 and has painstakingly earned its reputation over decades. The place is manageable in size, so rather small than large. If you’re looking for a cozy evening with plenty of seating, you’re in the wrong place. But if you want one of Berlin’s best döners, you’re in the right one.
The location is hard to beat. Kottbusser Tor is a central transport hub in the Berlin district of Kreuzberg and thus excellently accessible from the rest of the city. After your döner, a short stroll to the Admiralbrücke is also worthwhile: on mild summer evenings, Berliners and tourists from all over the world gather there to enjoy the evening. The oldest preserved wrought-iron bridge connects Fraenkelufer and Planufer over the Landwehrkanal. If you prefer to browse markets: every Tuesday and Friday, one of Berlin’s most colorful markets along Maybachufer invites you for an extensive stroll and feast.
What Makes Tadim’s Döner So Special
The secret lies in the meat. Tadim particularly impresses with the quality of its meat: 100% veal is used, seasoned with a secret blend of herbs and spices. Then there’s the bread, which truly forms its own category here. The dough for the bread is prepared directly on-site and always comes fresh from the oven. If you opt for the dürüm, you’re making an especially good choice here: the dough is rubbed directly along the spit before being filled. This gives the whole thing a depth that simply isn’t found in other shops.
We also highly recommend the Lahmacun. In addition to the classic döner, there are homemade Lahmacun, lentil soup, and daily changing lunch specials. The menu also includes various Böreks, homemade Pides, and for those with a sweet tooth: Sütlaç for dessert. Ordering the homemade Ayran alongside it is also a good choice. The price level is pleasantly moderate and is in the single-digit euro range. Portions are medium-sized, but there is also a large option for greater hunger. In short: Tadim is one of those addresses you must know if you take döner seriously in Berlin.
