Kaplan Döner at Leopoldplatz is Wedding neighborhood history you can bite into. The snack bar on Müllerstraße belongs to the döner dynasty that made Berlin great and serves meat and vegetable döner.
Cult snack bar with history in the heart of Wedding
Whoever knows Leopoldplatz also knows Kaplan. Kaplan Döner currently operates five gastronomic locations in Berlin, including the snack bar directly at Leopoldplatz. Behind it lies a true Berlin story: in 1989, Remzi Kaplan started Berlin’s first döner production in the Soldiner Kiez and soon supplied hundreds of snack bars in the city. The shop at Müllerstraße 150 is therefore not a newcomer, but a true Wedding fixture. The stall itself is small and clear. There are no seats inside. However: you can sit outside on the pavement, with the best view of Wedding on Luxemburger and Müllerstraße. Leopoldplatz itself is the main attraction. It is located directly at the subway, and if you have some time, you can visit the Schiller Library next door or walk along Müllerstraße, which is full of Turkish shops, cafés, and other döner shops. Even in the early night, you can still get your flatbread here.
What’s in Kaplan Döner?
At Kaplan Döner at Leopoldplatz, you get the classics: döner in a quarter flatbread and dürüm. Under a green awning, the döner shop does what it does best: meat and vegetable döner. The meat on the skewer is minced veal, and the portion is generous. It comes with iceberg lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and onions, as well as herb and spicy sauces. If you’re not hungry for meat, choose the vegetable döner or the vegetable dürüm. Vegetarians are catered for: there’s vegetable döner or vegetable dürüm. In addition, there’s also a menu with fries and a drink. The döner kebab with fries and a drink costs 11.50 Euros in the menu. The kebab shop has a heart for students: with a student ID, there’s a discount on dürüm and döner. The shop isn’t exactly huge, but the queue at lunchtime moves quickly. Because at Kaplan, things move fast, which is not uncommon. So if you’re looking for a döner in Berlin Wedding and want to know where the history of Berlin döner began, you should stop by here. Kaplan at Leopoldplatz is not the hippest place in town, but it’s honest craftsmanship in one of Berlin’s liveliest squares.
