Located on the edge of Görlitzer Park, right in Kreuzberg, Café Mugrabi has been serving Israeli-Levantine cuisine since 2016, with roots spanning Haifa, North Africa, and Jerusalem. Creamy hummus, crispy roasted cauliflower, and hamshuka have long made this small café a must-visit for anyone who knows where to find truly good food in Berlin.
Israeli Cuisine with Soul at Görlitzer Park
Café Mugrabi is not a restaurant that makes a big fuss about itself. Yet, there’s a daily queue outside, as its concept immediately wins people over. Guy Balassiano from Haifa opened his café here, bringing authentic Israeli breakfast and brunch to Kreuzberg. The menu revolves around locally roasted coffee, Middle Eastern tapas, breakfast, and brunch, with the menu changing seasonally and drawing inspiration from North Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, and Jerusalem. This isn’t just a fancy term; you can truly taste it: the spice combinations are complex without being overpowering.
First-time visitors should know that reservations are not accepted. Therefore, guests should expect a wait, as Mugrabi is very popular with Berliners. However, the effort is well worth it.
Hummus, Sabich, and Hamshuka: What’s on the Menu
The menu at Café Mugrabi is intentionally kept concise, focusing on what it does exceptionally well. The menu features various hummus variations: Hamshuka made from hummus and shakshuka, Sabich with eggplant, potato, and egg, and Abu Dhabi with grilled mushrooms, chickpeas, and tahini. Also on offer are roasted cauliflower with walnuts, labneh, schug, tahini, pomegranate, white cabbage, and pickled onions. The menu deliberately focuses on vegetarian and vegan options, as well as gluten-free choices. So, if you don’t eat meat, this is the perfect place for you. It’s open Monday to Thursday from 10:00 to 16:00 and Friday to Sunday until 17:00, with dishes costing between 10 and 16 Euros. For Kreuzberg, that’s fair, and considering what ends up on your plate, it’s even more than that.
