On Kopenhagener Straße in Prenzlauer Berg, Neapolitan Salvatore Sigismondo runs a salumeria, a rare find in Berlin. Sausage and cheese specialties, daily changing pasta, and Neapolitan caffè make this small shop a piece of Italy in the neighborhood.
Bar Salumeria Sigismondo: Delicatessen with Soul
A Berlin deli with Italian heart and soul: Salvatore comes from Naples and has the salumeria in his blood. Even as a child, he helped out in his grandmother’s and uncle’s salumeria, and these very memories led him to open his own business. The result is neither a restaurant nor a pure cafe, but both at once: a deli rarely found in Berlin. This small cafe scores with both a daily changing lunch menu and a delicatessen where guests can discover Italian delights and Neapolitan specialties. Even in the mornings, the day can be sweetened here with Italian treats and typical Neapolitan caffè.
Fresh Counter, Daily Changing Pasta, Dolce Vita
The offerings read like a quick shop at a Neapolitan market. At the fresh counter, there are filled panini and tramezzini or an antipasti plate with cold Italian sausage and cheese specialties. At lunchtime, the menu changes daily: options include soup, three pasta dishes, as well as various salads like rocket, tuna or seafood, and buffalo mozzarella. Additionally, there are dolci such as cornetti, torte al limone, and cannoli siciliani, which complete the deli experience. On the beverage side, Neapolitan caffè, freshly squeezed juices, aperitivi, and Italian classics like Chinotto and Lemonsoda create the right ambiance. All dishes are also available for take-away. Payment is cash only, by the way.
