Mitte

Mall of Berlin is the shopping center located in the heart of the government district at Leipziger Platz, built on the former site of the Wertheim department store. Around 200 shops are spread across four levels and 76,000 square meters, plus one of Germany's largest food courts on the second floor. A large portion of the area has been undergoing renovation since 2025.

Hardly any brewpub in Berlin is as central: Hopfingerbräu is located in the Palais am Pariser Platz, less than a hundred meters from the Brandenburg Gate. On tap is the Hopfinger Organic Naturtrüb, top-fermented, unfiltered, and brewed according to their own organic recipe. Inside, 230 seats on two floors, plus a terrace with a view of the Gate and the Reichstag.

Located on Engeldamm in Berlin-Kreuzberg, Blumental is a light-filled coffee house with plant-based cuisine, spoiling its guests from morning till night: Brunch here is vegan-vegetarian and homemade, with highlights such as pink pancakes with sour cherries or the carrot-salmon sandwich, all following a zero-waste principle.

The DDR Museum is located on the banks of the Spree opposite Berlin Cathedral and showcases everyday life in the GDR across 930 square meters beneath the riverside promenade. The collection comprises over 360,000 objects, mostly donated by around 10,000 private individuals. If you want to experience the GDR up close, you can sit in a Trabant here and open every drawer.

At Friedrichstraße station, the Tränenpalast (Palace of Tears) stands as the former departure hall of the border crossing point, built in 1962 directly after the construction of the Berlin Wall. Spanning 550 square meters, the permanent exhibition showcases over 550 objects, including an original passport control booth. For German-German history in Berlin, this is the ultimate place of farewells.

The Brooklyn is Berlin's most famous New York steak restaurant, hidden in a vaulted cellar on Köpenicker Straße in Mitte. Guests can look forward to US Prime Beef, a genuine Montague Grill, and an atmosphere that comes pretty close to Manhattan.

The house on Albrechtstrasse opened in 1910 as a hospice and still belongs to the Berliner Stadtmission today, with part of the proceeds supporting their social work. Sunday brunch is a buffet for 35 euros, featuring regional and seasonal dishes from Berlin and Brandenburg. Behind the restaurant lies a quiet courtyard garden, and Friedrichstraße station is two minutes away.
