The Deutsches Theater (DT for short) is one of Berlin's classics and has even made it onto a postage stamp.
For example, Gerhart Hauptmann’s play “The Weavers” premiered here in 1894. In reaction to the socially rebellious play, in which the exploited weavers rebel against the upper class, Emperor Wilhelm II cancelled his royal box in protest.
Today, the Deutsches Theater’s high-caliber ensemble includes well-known actors such as Nina Hoss and Ulrich Matthes.
Both classics like “The Maid of Orleans” or “Elektra” are performed, as well as contemporary productions, which are particularly highlighted at the annual “Autorentheatertage” festival.
