Kickz on Kurfürstendamm: the basketball specialist among sneaker shops

Kickz was founded in Munich in 1993, celebrated its thirtieth anniversary in 2023, and among Berlin’s sneaker addresses, it has the clearest focus: basketball. The former premium store on Torstraße is history; the Berlin store is now located at Kurfürstendamm 237 and, at around 600 square meters, is the largest in the entire group. “Home of Basketball” is the concept, and it is meant literally. In addition to game shoes, the store carries basketballs, equipment, NBA fan merchandise, and caps, as well as a lifestyle department with limited editions and retro sneakers. The assortment is carried by Nike, Jordan, adidas, and Puma, supplemented by a long list of other labels. Besides Berlin, Kickz also operates stores in Hamburg and Munich today. Those who buy sneakers primarily for playing and not for collecting are better off here than in most other stores in the city. The company was founded as a mail-order business for basketball supplies long before sneakers became collectible items.

Hardwood and Concrete: two zones and a Ballers Club

The area is divided into two zones, and the flooring makes the difference visible. The performance area is called Hardwood and is laid with real basketball parquet; this is where the game shoes are located. The lifestyle area is called Concrete, has a concrete floor, and displays what is worn more on the street than on the court. In between is the Ballers Club, a members’ area with leather sofas, a bar, and game consoles, where Hyperice recovery devices can be used free of charge; next to it, there’s a corner where shoes can be customized. In terms of price, the current signature models are closely aligned; a Jordan Tatum 5 costs 129.95 Euros, a Nike Caitlin 1 just under 140 Euros. The store was designed by Metrofarm, with sustainability being an explicit goal. The Kurfürstendamm subway station is just a few steps away. The core of the shoe department consists of the signature lines of current NBA and WNBA stars, from Jordan to adidas to Puma.
