Chia seeds are the bestseller at the 'Original Unverpackt' store – Germany's first supermarket that operates without single-use packaging!

Originating from Latin America, chia seeds are particularly energy-rich and are also referred to as a superfood due to their high concentration of healthy ingredients such as iron, Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, calcium, protein, and antioxidants. They are suitable, for example, for self-mixed muesli. Like many products at ‘Original Unverpackt’, the seeds can be taken from a large glass dispenser, also known as bulk bins, and filled into containers brought by the customers themselves. Alternatively, the store also sells organic paper bags, storage containers, or cotton bags. Some liquid foods like milk, yogurt, and jam are sold directly in returnable jars.

The range of this special supermarket includes spices, pasta, cornflakes, sweets, eggs, bread, fruit, vegetables, and oil, as well as whiskey and wine. Household and cosmetic goods such as soap and dishwashing liquid are also on offer. Around 80% of the goods are sold as organic quality, much of it from the Berlin-Brandenburg region.

Payment is made at the checkout by weight.

In addition to high environmental friendliness, ‘Original Unverpackt’ has another advantage: singles, in particular, are not tied to huge package sizes. This also applies to anyone who only needs a few grams of an ingredient for a specific dish.
