Gardens of the World: Marriage Proposal in the Garden of the Recovered Moon

You walk through a round moon gate, and the high-rise buildings behind the fence disappear. The Chinese Garden in Marzahn is named Garden of the Recovered Moon, is the largest complex of its kind in Europe, and surrounds a lake called Mirror of Heaven, measuring 4,500 square meters. On its shore lies a stone boat that will never set sail because it is made of stone – and precisely for this reason, it is the place where most photos are taken in this park.

The stone boat can actually be booked for weddings with up to 30 people; registration is first done at the Marzahn-Hellersdorf registry office. For the marriage proposal itself, it’s enough to simply go there. In the late afternoon, the park becomes emptier, the light falls flat over the water, and in the side paths of the Japanese and Korean Gardens, you often don’t encounter anyone for minutes.

The View from Above

If the ground isn’t dramatic enough for you, take the cable car. It runs 1.5 kilometers across the park, up to 35 meters high, with an intermediate station at Wolkenhain – a viewing platform 120 meters above sea level, from which the view extends all the way to the city center. In the evening, its membrane is illuminated, and in the cabin, you are at least with two people. Four free parking spaces are distributed around the park, and the U5 stops directly at the entrance. By the way, cash doesn’t hurt, not every vendor in the park accepts cards.
