Air Service Berlin - Weltballon

At Checkpoint Charlie, a helium-filled balloon is attached to a steel cable, ascending 150 meters high, enough to view the Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, Potsdamer Platz, and TV Tower all at once. The ride lasts just under a quarter of an hour. If you don't want to share the gondola, request an exclusive ascent and float over the city as a couple.
Air Service Berlin – Weltballon: The Marriage Proposal at 150 Meters
From below, the balloon on Zimmerstraße looks like an advertising medium that has gone astray. From above, one understands why tens of thousands ascend every year: At 150 meters, the Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, Potsdamer Platz, and TV Tower are simultaneously in view, with the roofs of Mitte in between, which you otherwise never get to see. The helium-filled balloon hangs on a 22-millimeter-thick steel cable, ascends vertically, stays at the top, and then descends again. The entire ride lasts just under a quarter of an hour.
The gondola has a diameter of five meters and carries twenty to thirty people depending on the wind. For a marriage proposal, this is the decisive variable: standing over the city as a couple is completely different from crowding against the railing with twenty-five strangers.
Why the Exclusive Ascent is Worth It
Therefore, the way for the big question leads through the exclusive ascent, which the operator grants upon request. Then the gondola belongs to the couple alone, or to the invited guests who wait for the landing in the balloon garden below. A normal ticket costs 32 Euros, the exclusive ascent many times that – for this, you get the view without an audience. Two things to know beforehand: The balloon only ascends in calm weather; in strong gusts, it stays down, and the current status can be checked before arrival. The tickets are not tied to a specific date and are valid for several years, so a cancelled plan is not a lost plan.
