Thanks to the children's musical 'Linie 1', GRIPS Theater is arguably the most famous children's theatre in Berlin and a nationwide flagship of children's theatre culture.
Already in the sixties, the theatre began not only to stage fairy tales for children, but to develop modern plays for children set in the present. Plays with a socio-critical background, written specifically for children, were a novelty at the time – and often enough caused a stir, thus setting an example.
Today, GRIPS is long established but still repeatedly struggles with financial difficulties.
