Bar Zum schmutzigen Hobby

The bar Zum schmutzigen Hobby is located in a former fire station on the RAW grounds, where founder Nina Queer moved her bar, which started in Prenzlauer Berg in 2005, in early 2011. Drag shows, bingo with the Wodkasisters, and nineties parties define the program. As a cult scene club of the queer city, it is the top address in Friedrichshain.

The RAW grounds on Revaler Straße are an old Reichsbahn repair yard and today house clubs, halls, and workshops. In a former fire station on the premises is the bar Zum schmutzigen Hobby. It was founded by drag queen Nina Queer in 2005, then still on Rykestraße in Prenzlauer Berg. In early 2011, the establishment, including its furnishings, moved to the RAW grounds. The old brick walls of the fire station remained, in front of them are sofas and velvet armchairs, interspersed with decor that doesn’t hide its kitsch. In summer, a small beer garden opens in front of the building.

Drag shows, bingo, and an audience without labels

The program is what distinguishes it from a mere bar. The fixed repertoire includes drag shows by the Deadly Divas and Judy LaDivina, bingo nights with the Wodkasisters, nineties parties, and communal TV evenings on a large screen. Shows and bingo require a ticket; party nights are freely accessible, and usually 10 to 20 Euros per person are sufficient for an evening. Payment by card is also possible. The dance floor is small, which helps rather than harms the atmosphere, as the space quickly fills up. The audience is queer-friendly and expressly open to everyone, from regulars from the neighborhood to first-time visitors to the grounds.
