Paule’s Metal Eck: Metal Pub in the Simon-Dach-Kiez

Krossener Straße branches off from Simon-Dach-Kiez, the part of Friedrichshain that is otherwise better known for student pubs and tourist spots. Paule’s Metal Eck clearly sets itself apart, not least because the facade leaves no doubt about what’s going on inside. The guest room is kept dark and bathed in red-black dim light. Skulls, demonic figures, and memorabilia from decades of band history hang on walls and ceiling, so densely that something new can be discovered with every visit. Tables are set up outside for those who wish to converse.

Draft Taps, Billiards, and its Own Scene

At the bar, there are around ten beers on tap, plus bottled beers, a wide selection of whiskey, as well as long drinks and cocktails. For an evening, one should expect to spend about 10 to 20 Euros per person; payment is exclusively cash. Musically, the establishment sticks to hard rock, heavy metal, and their subgenres, and the volume matches. In the back, there is a billiard table, foosball, and a dartboard, which form the actual meeting point on quieter evenings. The audience largely consists of regulars, many of whom are in bands themselves, which is why Metal Eck is considered an institution in the Berlin metal scene and not a themed pub.
