The Berliner Schnauze Dialect Theater performs in the former cabaret theater at Frankfurter Tor in Berlin-Friedrichshain.
Until now, Berlin did not have a dialect theater specifically celebrating the Berlin dialect. Cabaret artist Marga Bach has remedied this by founding a dialect stage, the Theater am Frankfurter Tor, in the premises of the former Cabaret Theater at Frankfurter Tor on Karl-Marx Allee in Friedrichshain. The Berlin cabaret artist Marga Bach is no stranger; she performed with the “Stachelschweine” and “Kneifzange” and toured Germany with her own programs. The Berlin dialect is a kind of trademark for her.
Now, with the Theater am Frankfurter Tor, she has founded her own stage for all who love the cheeky Berlin dialect. Laughter is explicitly allowed! Cabaret programs here are called “Dit kannste unter Ulk verbuchen” (You can chalk that up to a joke), “Aus Jux und Dollerei” (Just for fun and frolic), or “In der Nacht isst der Mensch nicht gern alleine” (At night, people don’t like to eat alone). Marga Bach herself performs as a comedian and singer in her own theater, but other artists fluent in Berlinerisch, such as Klaus-Peter Grap or Siegrid Grajek, also create programs in which Berlin plays the main role. In addition to comedy and cabaret programs, there are also Berlin song cabaret or Claire Waldoff programs.
The theater was lovingly renovated, redesigned, and opened as a dialect stage in autumn 2018. In a cozy living room atmosphere, visitors can expect an entertaining mix of cabaret, comedy, music, dance, and song in the Berlin style on 80 seats: a big mouth, cheeky sayings, sometimes quite hearty – a Berlin heart with ‘Schnauze’!
