Chamäleon Berlin: Cabaret Meets Contemporary Circus

With its unique orientation and program design throughout Germany, Chamäleon Berlin in Mitte significantly contributes to greater visibility and appreciation of contemporary circus as an independent art form. Since its founding in 2004, the Chamäleon Theater has been a showcase for current artistic positions in the international circus scene and thus a fixture in Berlin’s cabaret and variety landscape. It is a creative place for innovative shows with a strong focus on artists who simultaneously combine dance, juggling, and acting.

For example, the talent show satire „Showdown” by the British company Upswing combines biting comedy with spectacular acrobatics. The pieces are frequently co-produced and premiered in Berlin, which gives Chamäleon the character of a true production venue, not just a performance space.

Art Nouveau, Bistro Tables, and World-Class Acrobatics

The historic Art Nouveau ballroom in the Hackesche Höfe gives Chamäleon a warm and welcoming atmosphere, where hospitality is especially valued. The former Art Nouveau banquet hall is equipped with bistro tables, where snacks and drinks are discreetly served before and during the performance. This also creates the atmosphere that defines good cabaret: closeness between stage and audience.

Artistic director Anke Politz puts a lot of passion into selecting shows that continually surprise the audience. In 2026, the Canadian company Machine De Cirque, one of the most exciting contemporary circus groups, will make its Chamäleon debut with its ambitious work „Kintsugi”. Tickets should be booked early, as popular performances are known to sell out quickly.
