The small Zebrano – Theater in Berlin-Friedrichshain is a musically and literarily oriented stage, presenting cabaret, various forms of performing arts, and chanson.
The small Zebrano Theater, located near Ostkreuz station, was founded in 2006 and uses the premises of a former puppet theater. The theater’s logo features black and white stripes like a piano with a zebra’s tail. Appropriately, the small stage with a piano offers cabaret, readings, poetry slams, literary events, performing arts, and chanson, as well as a program for children. This can include puppet theater, children’s theater by the Silflay theater group, or even acrobatics and juggling. Silflay programs such as “All Hamsters Are Grey at Night” or “The Turtle and the Wishing Rock” are usually performed at 4 PM. The Silflay programs can also be booked by school classes and kindergartens upon request.
Every first Sunday of the month, Sebastian Krämer hosts the “Club Genius and Madness” at Zebrano. On one Tuesday a month, Krämer also leads the reading stage “Tuesday Prophets”. Musically, the “Geschmacksverstärker” (Flavor Enhancers) provide “Liederatur im Tetrapack” (Songs in a Tetrapack). The performing artists, comedians, and cabaret artists are not only newcomers from the neighborhood but also well-known artists such as Sebastian Krämer, Bodo Wartke, Christof Stählin, and Horst Evers have been and are guests here. Occasionally, students from the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts also sing, and artists present solo programs. This experimental neighborhood theater consistently provides surprises, entertainment, and simply good fun.
Those looking for an authentic theater experience with neighborhood charm are in the right place at Zebrano. The intimate atmosphere in the small theater is relaxed, though it cannot be guaranteed that audience members might not occasionally become part of a show.
With 65 seats, the theater offers an intimate setting. In the foyer, you can buy drinks and small snacks. After the performance, you can wind down the evening next door at the Zebrano Bar, which is currently being converted into a restaurant. Ticket prices are very moderate. To ensure the small theater in Friedrichshain can be maintained, the non-profit association “Zebrano-Theater e.V.” was founded, which also accepts donations.
