The Hat Jazzbar

A piece of 1940s New York is hidden in an S-Bahn arch at Lotte-Lenya-Bogen in Charlottenburg. The Hat Jazzbar serves live jam sessions every night with free entry, along with handcrafted cocktails in a bar that looks as if Edward Hopper painted it.
The Hat Jazzbar: Old-School Jazz beneath the S-Bahn Arches
The idea behind the bar originally came from St. Petersburg, where Michael Shpaizman and his colleagues were so successful with a jazz bar called Schljapa that they brought a branch to Berlin. Since 2015, The Hat Jazz Bar has been located in Charlottenburg. When searching for the right location, one criterion was particularly important: no noise-sensitive neighbors. Shpaizman finally found what he was looking for in the Lotte-Lenya-Bogen beneath the S-Bahn.
The result is a bar with real character. The brick vaulted arch is classically equipped with a long counter, behind which spirits are stacked in front of mirrored wall elements. Chairs, counter, and ceiling fan are stylish, and the bartenders in balloon caps, white shirts, and vests welcome guests with cool casualness. If you’re looking for a bar with live music in Berlin that doesn’t feel like a tourist product, this is the place to be.
Jam Sessions, Cocktails, and Free Entry – Every Night
Night after night, there are spontaneous jam sessions with Berlin and international jazz artists, with free entry. The strength lies in the nightly live jam sessions: there are no fixed gigs, no announced guest musicians. This means: Every night sounds different. The bar is spatially limited; it occupies only a single arch under the S-Bahn tracks. When the musicians play here, you are practically part of it.
In addition, there is an extensive classic cocktail menu. The bartenders are proud representatives of their craft and serve rare and self-created concoctions alongside standards. It is open Monday to Thursday from 20:00, Friday to Sunday from 19:00. So, if you want to experience one of the best bars with live music in Berlin, you don’t even have to dig deep into your pockets.
