Berlin Piratas: Canoe and Kayak at Pichelswerder
Berlin Piratas rents out canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards on Siemenswerderweg in Spandau, on the Pichelswerder peninsula on the Havel. The station has been located at this address since June 2026; previously, it was a few minutes’ walk away. From the jetty, you are quickly on open water, and thus begins the part of Berlin that most people only know from the shore: wide Havel arms, wooded banks, and quiet bays where no city traffic noise remains.
The fleet includes single and double kayaks, four-person canoes, classic stand-up paddleboards, and XXL boards that can accommodate up to ten people at once. The first hour in a single kayak costs 15.00 Euros, a full day a maximum of 45.00 Euros. Life jackets, dry bags, and water maps are included at no extra charge, so nothing needs to be brought except sunscreen and a change of clothes. Each additional hour becomes cheaper, and the four-person canoe is the obvious choice for families or small groups who prefer to sit together in one boat.
Summer on the Havel: Plan your tour and paddle off
Booking is pleasantly straightforward. A reservation is only required for ten people or more; smaller groups can simply drop by and usually find enough equipment available. If you’re planning with a larger group, register beforehand via the form or by phone. Two clear rules apply on the water: being able to swim safely is a prerequisite, and a strict zero-alcohol limit applies to everyone on board.
For the Berlin summer, Berlin Piratas is a particular recommendation because Spandau looks surprisingly little like a big city from the water. Between reeds and sailboats, you quickly lose track of time, which is why a half-day rather than an hour is more worthwhile for a first visit. However, there is hardly any shade on the Havel, so sun protection should be in your luggage. Getting there also works without a car: the Pichelswerder bus stop is nearby, the nearest S-Bahn station is Pichelsberg on lines S3 and S9, from there it’s a few more minutes on foot.
