Historical Community Hall Moabit

The Historical Community Hall Moabit is tucked in the back of a normal-appearing residential building in the Putlitzstraße in Stephankiez in Moabit but hosts a real art-nouveau-gem with poetry slams, readings and theater!

By passing through the foyer in the rear of the old building past the Art Nouveau desk, which serves as a cash desk, you enter the Historical Community Hall Moabit. The large hall will surprise you with its ambience of about 7 meters high ceilings, old parquet and lots of red color. Film cameras are installed for decoration. Old suitcases partly piled up several meters high are everywhere. The secret behind is, that the operator and puppeteer Thomas Rohloff has been playing the suitcase in the ZDF children's series "Seven Stone” for 30 years. That’s why also an original case from the series is hidden in the jumble.

Among the recurring cultural events in the Community Hall Moabit is the reading stage "Fox and Sons". The reading stage with the authors Kirsten Fuchs, Sebastian Lehmann, André Herrmann and Paul Bokowski and other guest Poetry slammers is held every third Wednesday of the month. In addition, there are many readings that are organized and hosted by the literary initiative. Since autumn 2016 the Improtheater with the group Foxy Freestyle takes place monthly on a Sunday. Worth mentioning are also the moderate prices for drinks at the small bar in the rear of the Community Hall.

Furthermore, more cultural evenings, that are part of larger series of events such as "Moabit reads", are organized at irregular intervals. The Community Hall can also be booked for private events and has a THX sound system and projector technology for full HD screenings.
