What do tourists visiting Berlin and filmmakers have in common?
Both love Alexanderplatz! In 2003, for example, Daniel Brühl had banknotes rain down from a prefabricated building on Alexanderplatz in “Good Bye Lenin.” And international star Jodie Foster filmed her thriller “Flightplan” at the Alexanderplatz subway station. Matt Damon, on the other hand, used a demonstration on Alexanderplatz in 2004 as CIA killer Jason Bourne in “The Bourne Supremacy” to shake off his pursuers. In addition, Heinrich George shone in 1931 in “Berlin Alexanderplatz” as a criminal who wants to become decent.
Alexanderplatz is the former center of East Berlin and an important transportation hub for the city. It was named after Russian Tsar Alexander I. The world clock located on Alexanderplatz is another landmark and tourist attraction in Berlin. It is often mistakenly assumed that the equally popular television tower is located on Alexanderplatz, but it is actually located next to it on Panoramastraße. Both the world clock and the television tower appear repeatedly in moving images from film and television productions worldwide set in the German capital.
