In Wedding, directly at Leopoldplatz, the Schiller Library with its youth media floor offers much more than just bookshelves: Across three levels and 1,800 m², children and young people encounter Berlin's most diverse media offerings, from consoles to mangas and a reading lounge.

Schiller Library: More Than Just Borrowing Books

In 2015, the Schiller Library, with the @hugo youth media floor, opened as a community-oriented central library in its own new building. 1,800 m² across three levels with a reading lounge, sonic chairs, youth bistro, and event rooms are available to children, young people, and adults. So, anyone who thinks a library means silence and stern looks is wrong here. With 75,000 media, including books, DVDs, Blu-rays, console games for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X and Nintendo DS, Tonies, TipToi pens, comics, mangas, and magazines, the offerings extend far beyond the classic lending assortment. There’s also plenty to discover for families with younger children.

Child-Friendly Activities and Family Outings in Berlin

The Schiller Library is a meeting point for teenagers and young adults. With its media offerings of PC and console games, mangas, and anime, it places a clear focus on young people, and it also offers consultations and events tailored to the needs of this target group. Specifically, this means: library tours, homework help, reading hours, as well as workshops for career orientation and reading promotion are regularly on the program. Furthermore, the library is barrier-free, making it easily accessible for families with strollers. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 19:30, Saturday from 10:00 to 14:00, and Sunday from 12:00 to 18:00 (2025). Admission is free, which makes the Schiller Library one of the most accessible family excursion destinations in Berlin.
