Chay Village on Eisenacher Straße has been cooking completely vegetarian since 2011, with around 80 percent of the menu being vegan. Among the soup kitchens in Berlin, this is perhaps the largest meat-free selection: eight large soups and four appetizer soups, from Phở with tofu to glass noodle soup and coconut milk soup. The large bowls cost 12.00 Euro.

Chay Village Schöneberg: vegetarian soup kitchen on Eisenacher Straße

Since October 2011, Chay Village has been cooking at Eisenacher Straße 40, directly at the U-Bahn station of the same name. The restaurant is completely vegetarian, with about four-fifths of the menu being vegan. This is not specifically marked; instead, the staff provides information on what is free of animal products. Cooking is done without MSG, with fresh herbs and GMO-free tofu. The dining room is decorated with wall paintings and Buddha figures, there are indoor and outdoor seating areas, and dogs are allowed. A second location in Friedrichshain also belongs to the business.

Twelve soups on the menu, from Phở to coconut milk

For a vegetarian kitchen, the soup section is unusually large: eight large soups and four appetizer soups are on the menu. Because the entire restaurant operates meat-free, the Phở here is automatically the Chay version with tofu and vegetables in a spiced broth. Alongside it is the sour Phở Chua, plus Miến Thập Cẩm with glass noodles, Bánh Đa Hải Phòng with the wide red rice noodles from Northern Vietnam, a Wonton soup, and a Bún Riêu. Those who prefer it milder can opt for the coconut milk soup. The large bowls are priced at 12.00 Euro, and the appetizer soups at 6.00 Euro. This is complemented by summer rolls as well as noodle and rice dishes.
