By entering the bar “Wilde Matilde” visitors step into a colorful circus world and a Berlin of the Golden 20s. The Wilde Matilde is a cocktail bar and an event restaurant, a patisserie and a Variety show. Centrally located in the historic Nikolaiviertel, the Wilde Matilde attracts a mixed audience of young and old, Berliners and tourists with its façade of large shop windows overlooking the colorful interior. Inside, sitting areas with pink velvet armchairs and benches, white bistro tables, a central bar designed like a merry-go-round and staff dressed to match the circus atmosphere with petticoats, ruffles and suspenders welcome the guests. Oversized, pink-and-white striped curtains tied to the side, similar to those in the circus, adorn the windows. Every Friday and Saturday the guests can expect a colorful circus show – the Berlin Variety Show. Visitors experience four hours of varied show program, while a four-course meal of Berlin specialties is served. Showacts are presented every 30 minutes. Singers perform the Mack the Knife Song or Frank Sinatra’s hymn New York, New York, the Wilde Matilde showgirls fuel the audience with a colorful mix of dances like Can Can, Burlesque and Moulin Rouge on the bar counter, acrobats swing brightly colorful hula-hoops or perform tricks on the aerial hoop on the ceiling or on the trapeze, a saxophonist is playing jazz. Between the show acts, a DJ entertains the audience with a fitting mix of well-known hits, twist and swing. Candy girls distribute marshmallows and popcorn.
