Since 1986, Hisar fresh food in Schöneberg has been part of Berlin's Döner DNA. Located directly at Yorckstraße S-Bahn and U-Bahn station, this snack bar is one of the oldest and most famous establishments of its kind in the city. If you want to taste a bit of Berlin's Döner history, you should stop by here.
Berlin Original on Yorckstraße
Some places have a history grander than their facade. Hisar fresh food in Schöneberg is one of them. This Döner snack bar has stood on Yorckstraße since 1986, experiencing more Berlin turning points than most pubs in the neighborhood. When the Wall fell in 1989, the place became a meeting point for people of various nationalities who gathered here at Yorckstraße S-Bahn and U-Bahn station. A lot has changed since then, but the establishment has remained. In 2005, a proper restaurant was even added, but the snack bar next door continues to operate at full speed.
The location is practically unbeatable. Those getting off the S-Bahn are practically standing in front of it. Additionally, Hisar fresh food is halfway between Kreuzberg and Schöneberg, in an area where there’s plenty to discover anyway. Viktoriapark with the Kreuzberg hill and its small waterfall is within walking distance. If you want to experience more after your Döner, you’ll find cafés, bars, and the flair of old West Berlin around Yorckstraße. Hisar also offers seating, both indoors and outdoors on the covered terrace.
What Makes Hisar’s Döner So Special
When it comes to Döner at Hisar fresh food, it’s all about one thing: freshness. The meat is thinly sliced, and the vegetables are crisp and never too soft. You can choose between beef and chicken. Both options are convincing, with the beef Döner with extra cheese forming a category of its own. The Dürüm also has its loyal fanbase here, and rightly so. The bread is crispy, and the filling is generous. Homemade sauces are also available, including a spicy garlic sauce that is absolutely addictive.
If you’re not in the mood for Döner, you’ll also find Lahmacun (Turkish pizza), falafel, and vegetarian options on the menu. Plates with fries are also available. The prices are fair and in the lower range. A Döner in bread costs just a few euros, while the regular-sized plate option is around 6 euros. All of this makes Hisar fresh food one of Berlin’s most reliable Döner shops, demonstrating that quality and history are not mutually exclusive.
