On Gerichtstraße in Wedding, Ehl-i Kebap by Et Dünyasi is more than just an ordinary doner stand. Here, the meat comes from their own butcher shop, the skewer is cut rectangularly and was inspired by the legendary Istanbul doner shop Bayramoğlu.

Doner in Wedding: What’s behind Ehl-i Kebap by Et Dünyasi?

The restaurant is located in the heart of Wedding, a district that is increasingly flourishing gastronomically. Those who want to take a walk are close to Leopoldplatz and Volkspark Rehberge. The atmosphere is cozy, but it can get crowded during peak hours. Seating is available, which distinguishes Ehl-i Kebap from many pure doner fast-food stations. Reservations are accepted exclusively by phone. So, if you’re coming spontaneously, it’s better to arrive outside of the lunchtime rush.

Why this doner at Ehl-i Kebap is so special

The real reason why Ehl-i Kebap makes it onto our doner list is the skewer. Its hallmark is a Yaprak doner made from beef, interspersed with lamb and lamb fat, which is carved in thick slices, giving the skewer a rectangular shape. This style was inspired by the legendary Istanbul doner shop Bayramoğlu. Berlin’s first rectangular doner skewer, and it delivers on taste what it promises visually.

The meat comes from natural animal husbandry and is processed without additives. The establishment deliberately refrains from using soy, glutamate, and emulsifiers. You can taste it. All products come from their own butcher shop ET DÜNYASI, which gives the doner an advantage over most competitors: the entire chain is in one hand. The doner costs 7 Euros. Given the quality of the meat, this is absolutely justified.

Besides the doner, it’s worth taking a look at the rest of the menu. The rolled Adana skewer, here called Beyti, as well as the Köfte are among the best in the entire city. There are also Köfte sandwiches, various pasta options, and appetizers such as hummus and different tartare variations. We recommend the doner more as a plate, i.e., on rice or as Iskender, rather than in bread. The meat deserves space. And respect.
