UMAMI originated in Prenzlauer Berg, but its Asian fusion cuisine has long since established itself at several locations throughout the city. Southeast Asian flavors meet European influences, the interior evokes 1950s Indochina - and the menu offers a solution for every appetite.

UMAMI: Berlin’s Asian Fusion Restaurant with a History

What began in 2014 as a small restaurant in Prenzlauer Berg is now a staple of Berlin’s culinary scene. UMAMI now welcomes its guests at six locations in Berlin: in Prenzlauer Berg, Kreuzberg, Maison Umami, and Friedrichshain. Its origin lies at the corner of Rykestraße and Knaackstraße, with a direct view of the water tower. Handcrafted artworks and decorations from 1950s Indochina transform each restaurant into a world of its own. Those who manage to snag one of the low tables on the platform can count themselves lucky.

The name follows the concept of the fifth taste sensation alongside sweet, sour, salty, and bitter: “Umami”, translated as savory, hearty. That’s exactly what you feel with the first bite. With over 15,000 reviews and 4.8+ stars on the most important platforms, this Asian restaurant is among the most highly-rated in Berlin.

Southeast Asian Flavors, Fresh Daily

At UMAMI, Southeast Asian flavors merge with European taste influences to create dishes that surprise and taste familiar at the same time. The menu combines the best of two worlds: From steaming classics to fresh signature dishes and creative drinks at the bar, every dish is prepared with attention to detail and the best fresh ingredients. Particularly popular are the hand-steamed dumplings from the bamboo basket, Pho broths with fresh herbs, and changing weekly specials. The weekly menu offers guests constantly changing dishes, fresh, creative, and always a new discovery – making every visit worthwhile again and again.

Furthermore, UMAMI also impresses with its excellent value for money. Dishes arrive at the table in less than ten minutes after ordering, even when it’s busy. From Monday to Friday, between 12:00 and 17:00, every dish comes with a complimentary homemade herbal soup or a fresh herbal salad. So, if you’re looking for an Asian restaurant in Berlin that combines depth with accessibility, this is the right place.
