Soldiner Straße is located in Wedding and is one of those areas in Berlin where you wouldn’t initially expect to find a manufactory of this kind. Wohlfarth Schokolade operates at house number 39, and the shop is deliberately designed as a glass manufactory: From the small sales area, you can look into the semi-open kitchen and watch the conching and tempering process. The Pankstraße U-Bahn station on the U8 line is about an eight-minute walk away, and bus lines 150 and 327 stop directly on the street. Those coming by car will find it much easier here than in Mitte or Prenzlauer Berg, as there is no parking management in Soldiner Kiez. Behind the operation is Christoph Wohlfarth, a trained baker and confectioner, who founded his manufactory in 2010 and has been producing under his own name since 2015. They work bean-to-bar with organic Arriba Nacional beans from small cooperatives in Ecuador, which he purchases directly and at fairer prices.

A Chocolate Record and Vouchers from Five Euros

The most famous item at Wohlfarth Schokolade is a record: a seven-inch single made of seventy percent chocolate, which can actually be played and then eaten. It costs 20 Euros and explains itself upon presentation. If you’re looking for a curated selection, take the Berlin Box with mini-salami, hot chocolate on a spoon, and a chocolate bar of your choice for 18.50 Euros. Also available are hand-pulled cocoa pretzel sticks, a praline box with a magnetic closure, and themed bars that can also be personalized upon request. You can taste before buying, and the consultation can easily take half an hour, which is possible in a shop of this size. Vouchers are available in increments from five to one hundred and fifty Euros, printed on grass paper and sent by post. However, they can only be redeemed on-site in Wedding, which should be considered when gifting. If you can’t make it there, you can order via their online shop with shipping, with delivery taking about three to five days. Additionally, the manufactory can be found at Berlin markets, including the Naschmarkt at Markthalle Neun.
