Löwenpalais: Marrying in Bernhard Sehring’s Villa

Bernhard Sehring, the architect of the Theater des Westens, built the villa in 1903 and 1904 as a country house for Emilie Habel from the Berlin brewing family. The copper dome and the two stone lions at the entrance gave the monument its name. From 1930, the house was divided into luxury apartments, where actors O. W. Fischer and O. E. Hasse, as well as conductor Sergiu Celibidache, among others, lived.

Since December 1988, the non-profit Starke Art Foundation has been located in the Löwenpalais. Accordingly, art is continuously displayed in the rooms, the lounge was designed by New York artist Colette, and guests have included Yoko Ono and Vivienne Westwood. Those who marry in this house do not celebrate in a neutral hall, but among works that change throughout the year. For photos after the ceremony, this is an advantage that no decoration can replace.

Three Banqueting Halls, a Garden with Pagodas, and Free Caterer Choice

Three banqueting halls with wooden floors are available for celebrations: the central hall with 73 square meters, and the west and east wings, each with 45. 170 guests can be seated for dinner, 350 people can fit in the house for a standing reception, and up to 400 can celebrate. Additionally, there is a lounge of 56 square meters, an illuminated terrace, and a 250 square meter garden with magnolias and Balinese pagodas, which can also accommodate up to 350 guests.

Grand pianos, chandeliers, candelabras, and floor lights are part of the furnishings; lighting and sound equipment are provided by the house. Unlike most venues of this size, the Löwenpalais does not mandate a caterer: couples are free to choose and can be connected with long-standing partners upon request. A civil ceremony is not possible; a free ceremony takes place in the garden or the fireplace room. The M19 bus stops directly in front of the door at the Hasensprung station, and it’s just a few minutes’ walk from Grunewald S-Bahn station.
