The Celtic Cottage in Steglitz opened in 1979 and is one of Germany's oldest Irish pubs: nine draft beers, around seventy whisky varieties, steel darts, and a heated terrace with over sixty seats. The pub shows the 'Tatort' crime show on a big screen in the back room. Whoever guesses the culprit and submits their tip in time gets half a draft beer on the house.
Celtic Cottage: Crime Fever in the Back Room
The Celtic Cottage is located on a quiet side street in Steglitz, a few minutes from Walther-Schreiber-Platz and Schloßstraße. In front of the building is a covered and heated terrace with over sixty seats, which is also used in winter. Inside, you pass through a front dining area with a bar and a small stage, followed by a second room with benches and a dedicated area for steel darts. The pub opened in 1979, making it one of Germany’s oldest Irish establishments.
Nine draft beers and cider on tap are served, and there are around seventy varieties of whisky on the shelves. Classic pub food is also available, such as Cottage Pie for 9.00 Euros or Irish Sausages for 11.50 Euros.
Guess the Culprit Game
The Celtic Cottage shows the “Tatort” crime show in the back room on a big screen, announced as “Crime Fever in the Back Room.” There’s also a betting game: whoever guesses the culprit and submits their tip to the staff in time gets half a draft beer on the house. This applies only to first broadcasts, and a drink must already be on the table.
A maximum of just under a third of the seats are reserved; the rest remain available for walk-in guests. Besides the crime show, the pub quiz has especially made a name for itself, running since 2004 and played for a 1 Euro entry fee per person. Live music is featured twice a week, and admission is free.
