The Sommergarten (Summer Garden) of Messe Berlin is located under the Funkturm (Radio Tower) in Westend, surrounded by the exhibition halls, and can accommodate up to 10,000 guests across approximately 10,000 square meters. It was built in 1931, and concerts have been held here since 1981. Today, music is only played during the IFA in early September, in 2026 with BUNT. and Ikkimel. It is the shortest format among Berlin's open-air concerts.

The IFA Summer Garden is located under the Funkturm

The Sommergarten is part of the Messe Berlin grounds on Messedamm in Westend and was created in 1931 according to the plans of garden director Ludwig Lesser for the German Building Exhibition. Since 1981, it has also been a sculpture garden, showcasing works by Berlin artists. The green space measures approximately 10,000 square meters and accommodates about 10,000 visitors. Because the exhibition halls enclose the garden on all sides, they act like a sound barrier to the outside, and above it all stands the Funkturm. Concerts have been held here since 1981, with performers including Bryan Adams, BAP, Pink, Scooter, and Weather Report. Today, the Sommergarten is no longer a continuous summer venue: The concert program is condensed into a few days during the IFA and is explicitly aimed at a young audience.

The 2026 program at the IFA Summer Garden

In 2026, IFA utilized the Sommergarten from September 3rd to 6th, with the series presented by Radio Fritz. The opening on September 3rd featured the project BUNT., which played the finale of its “In The Round” tour in the Sommergarten. On September 5th, Ikkimel followed with an open-air performance blending trap and techno, joined by other guests from the Berlin club scene. September 6th was dedicated to live podcasts instead of concerts, with “Wine Wednesday” and “Mord auf Ex” among those on stage. Convenient for visitors: the Sommergarten ticket also served as admission to the trade fair on the respective day. According to IFA, a total of over 45,000 guests visited the Sommergarten in 2024 and 2025. Prices vary from evening to evening and are announced with the program.
