Rebellious, spiky, and non-conformist, the Stachelschweine (Porcupines) were founded in 1949 as Berlin's first post-war political cabaret, and to this day they offer biting social satire.

The Stachelschweine were founded in 1949 and were Berlin’s first post-war political cabaret. The name came from a satire magazine called „Das Stachelschwein“ (The Porcupine), whose editor was the cabaret artist Hans Reimann. Since 1965, the basement of the Europa-Center has been the permanent venue for the Stachelschweine. The Stachelschweine won the hearts of Berliners with their spiky programs. Actions like „pro Kopp en Knopp“ (one button per head), where ensemble members in pajamas promoted their program on the Ku’damm, contributed to the stage’s popularity.

The Stachelschweine are Berlin’s oldest ensemble cabaret and are known far beyond Berlin’s borders. Radio and television broadcasts contributed to the stage’s popularity. The ensemble has changed over time, but the concept of biting social satire and spiky political cabaret has remained. „Dear Stachelschweine, never let yourselves be shaved!“ Erich Kästner wrote in the Stachelschweine’s guestbook as early as 1953, a piece of advice they seem to have followed to this day, as they have remained spiky. In addition to the ensemble programs, which, for example, discuss whether one can go on holiday with men or simply examine people.offices.catastrophes, there are also regular guest performances at the Stachelschweine.

The cabaret theater offers comfortable seating, with table seats with service being particularly popular, where you can enjoy your drink even during the performance. Additionally, there is a small beverage bar in the Stachelschweine’s foyer. Furthermore, the Europa-Center offers various dining options. The theater is centrally located in City West, with Kurfürstendamm, Tauentzien, and Zoo Station all within walking distance.
