Beach Bar on a Real River Island

To reach Inselgarten, you cross the Abteibrücke, Germany’s oldest steel-concrete composite bridge. Those who pass this narrow connection to the Island of Youth noticeably leave the big city noise behind. A spacious garden with a green lawn forms the heart of the island. Comfortable beach chairs and sun loungers directly by the water await visitors who are serious about slowing down. A wide selection of drinks, regional dishes, and sunshine with a view of the Spree are standard here. If you want to be active: a canoe or kayak can be rented right next door, and if those are unavailable, you can switch to pedal boats instead.

Inselgarten: Culture, Beer, and a Real Old Berlin Feeling

Every summer, Inselgarten attracts around 100,000 guests from all over the world, and almost every evening, DJs or live music create a great atmosphere. However, things are noticeably different here than in the clubs of the city center. Around two concerts a month are on the program, from soul to jazz to funk, plus an open-air cinema in summer and poetry slams. The concept behind it is deliberately down-to-earth. The concept is simple: the operators want to bring back the Berlin of the 1920s, when neighborhood families came to the island to dance. Speaking of drinks: Unpasteurized Pilsner Urquell is served, delivered directly from the brewery. Inselgarten is open in good weather, for cultural events, and on weekends. So it’s best to check the weather, get your bikes out, and cycle directly to Treptow.
