Probably Berlin's most famous beach bar isn't on the shore, but right in the middle of the Spree: The Badeschiff in Alt-Treptow combines a floating pool, sandy beach, and beach bar atmosphere with a spectacular panoramic view of the Oberbaumbrücke and the TV Tower.

The Badeschiff Berlin: Beach Bar on the Spree

Following the tradition of old river lidos, the push barge anchored in Alt-Treptow functions as a floating bathing establishment. What sounds like a whimsical art project has long been a reality: The Badeschiff was opened back in 2004 and has since enjoyed immense and steadily growing popularity. The concept is as simple as it is convincing. Swimming in the river is not allowed due to dirt and currents, so a pool was simply sunk directly into the Spree. The freshwater-filled pool has a depth of 2.05 meters and is 30 meters long. In total, the heated pool holds around 295 cubic meters of water, which has a temperature of about 24 degrees Celsius. Thus, while technically swimming in a chlorinated pool, the feeling of being surrounded by the Spree remains. A large wooden jetty connects the shore to the Badeschiff, and otherwise there’s plenty of sandy beach, sun loungers, beach bar life, and a relaxed atmosphere.

Beach Bar, Open-Air Events, and Everything In Between

Those who don’t want to swim are also well catered for here. On wooden walkways, you can move between the pool and bar area or relax in one of the hammocks. The Beach Bar pampers guests with refreshing drinks, delicious snacks, and the necessary caffeine kick. Furthermore, the program remains interesting even after sunset: Open-airs, beach parties, and music events take place at irregular intervals. However, anyone wishing to visit the Badeschiff should plan ahead. To visit the Badeschiff, it is necessary to book tickets in advance. The entrance fee is 8 Euros per person. Bathing times are divided into two-hour slots, and tickets can be purchased four days in advance via the Arena Berlin website. From June 20, 2026, the Badeschiff will be open again, usually from 10:00 to 22:00. Last-minute visitors should therefore book early, as tickets sell out quickly.
