2Wave: Surfing on the Havel River west of Berlin

Around 70 kilometers west of the city lies the meeting point of 2Wave, and since 2026, this has been the Tieckow Havel beach in Havelsee. From the parking lot, it’s about a 200-meter walk to the water. By train, the spot can be reached from Fohrde station with a walk of just under half an hour. The Havel River here is wide and calm, with reeds on both banks, and this very tranquility is the prerequisite for what happens here. There is no standing wave. Instead, 2Wave’s own surf cutter generates the wave, behind which participants take turns surfing. A single wave runs almost 300 meters, and over a morning or afternoon, up to three hours of waves accumulate. There’s no crowding like at a real surf spot because everyone takes turns. A weekend surf trip costs 95 Euros per surfer, on Blue Friday it’s 79 Euros.

Foil Courses and Pumping Island at 2Wave

In addition to surfing, 2Wave specializes in two foil disciplines. In foilsurfing, a hydrofoil under the board lifts the rider out of the water, while in foil pumping, you maintain momentum solely through body movement. For this, the company has built its own small island, the Pumping Island, with six launch options at three different heights of 30, 45, and 60 centimeters. The pumping course is divided into five modules, from the function of the hydrofoil to launch exercises and safety training, to various dock starts and the actual pumping technique. Finally, there’s a material consultation, which is explicitly not a sales pitch. Not much more than basic fitness is required. Behind 2Wave is Frank Sorge, who has been developing his own pump-foil prototypes since 2017 and has invented launch techniques with names like Tomahawk and Twister. For groups of up to ten people, there are team days where food and drinks may be brought along. Boards in various sizes are available for all skill levels.
