Café Schwartzsche Villa

The Café Schwartzsche Villa is located in the Steglitz Cultural Centre, home to the Berlin Authors' Forum, where readings regularly take place in the salon. It is operated by an inclusion company, and a slice of cake costs 4 Euros. As a reading café in Berlin-Steglitz, the yellow Wilhelminian villa boasts a summer garden for around 100 guests.

Café Schwartzsche Villa: Reading Café in Steglitz Cultural Centre

The yellow villa on Grunewaldstraße was built at the end of the 19th century according to plans by architect Christian Heidecke as the summer residence of the banking family Schwartz. In 1961, the State of Berlin purchased the house, and in the early nineties, it was converted into the district’s cultural centre. Today, it houses a gallery, a studio stage, and a salon for concerts and readings, and the Berlin Authors’ Forum is also based in the villa. Anyone who wants to stay after a reading or a gallery visit can sit in the villa’s café, right next to Steglitz Town Hall.

Summer Garden, Villa Breakfast, and Cake

Since September 1995, Mosaik-Services gGmbH has operated the café as an inclusion business, where people with and without disabilities work together. The menu includes breakfast, bistro dishes, cakes, wine, and cocktails: A coffee crema costs 3.50 Euros, a slice of cake 4 Euros, and the Villa breakfast 16.90 Euros. Behind the house is a large summer garden under old trees with space for around 100 guests; indoors, up to 30 people can celebrate. Wheelchair users can access the café via the elevator.
