Hamburger Bahnhof

With an exhibition space of 10.000 square metres Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart is held as one of the prime adresses of its kind in Europe. The permanent exhibition is home to works of Joseph Beuys, Roy Lichtenstein or Neo Rauch. Add to that temporary exhibitions with painting and scluptures of contemporary artists.

Hamburger Bahnhof was was really a train station, inaugurated in 1847 for the train connection between Berlin and Hamburg. Its original function however lasted only for 37 years but the building remains the only historical station building from this era still intact. Hamburger Bahnhof was refurbished to be used as a museum by well-known architect Josef Paul Kleihues and enlarged by an addition.
