A former World War II high-rise bunker, right in the heart of Berlin-Mitte, near the Deutsches Theater: The Boros Collection transforms war architecture into one of the city's most exciting venues for contemporary art. Since 2008, collectors Karen and Christian Boros have invited visitors on guided tours through Berlin's most extraordinary private museum, spanning 3,000 square meters.
A Bunker as an Exhibition Space in Berlin-Mitte
The converted bunker stands like a somber block at the corner of Reinhardtstraße and Albrechtstraße, not far from the Deutsches Theater in Berlin-Mitte. From the outside, there are no signs, no indication that a museum is hidden here. The works are spread over five floors, which architect Jens Casper has transformed into a network of individual rooms connected on multiple levels. Some rooms have been redesigned into classic white-cube spaces, while others still bear traces of the building’s eventful past as a prison, warehouse, and techno club. Those who enter the Boros Collection immediately sense this rich layering.
Collector Christian Boros lives with his family in the upper part of the bunker, while the lower floors house the collection. This makes the place even more peculiar – and thus even more appealing.
The Boros Collection #5: New Exhibition Since May 2026
In its fifth presentation of works since May 2026, the Boros Collection features newly acquired pieces alongside works from the early 2000s. The exhibition brings together 27 contemporary positions in painting, sculpture, installation, and sound, the majority of which were recently acquired. The thematic leitmotif of the new hanging is quite programmatic: in a present where external order appears increasingly unstable, interiority and psychological intensification move to the forefront as defining tendencies of contemporary art.
For the current presentation, additional wall surfaces were stripped of paint to reveal further traces of the building’s history. Each exhibition in the bunker also includes site-specific works that refer to the respective interiors and their history. This is no coincidence, but a concept: each of the exhibited works was installed by the artists themselves and fitted into its respective presentation space.
Visit Only with Guided Tour and Prior Registration
The Boros Collection is accessible only by prior registration from Thursday to Sunday, and for safety reasons, the bunker can only be visited in groups of up to twelve people. The ticket costs 20 Euros, reduced 12 Euros. Tours are often booked out long in advance, so it is advisable to register your visit a few weeks ahead. Those who plan accordingly will be rewarded with an experience unparalleled in Berlin’s exhibition landscape.
