For this list I selected those houses that stand out from the usual hotel routine. What mattered to me was a character of their own, whether through unusual design, extraordinary places to sleep or a very personal signature of the hosts. I paid attention to location, atmosphere and that certain something that turns a night's stay into an experience you will remember.
