Miniloft Apartment Hotel Mitte: Living like in a Berlin apartment

The building at Hessische Straße 5 was constructed in two phases between 2001 and 2004 as a complex interplay of renovation and new construction. The two adjacent buildings, one historical and the other a futuristic new building with a stainless steel facade, were designed and renovated by architects Britta Jürgens and Matthew Griffin. The result was no ordinary hotel. The Miniloft stands out with its award-winning design: A curved steel and concrete facade was erected on a former rubble plot in front of a Wilhelminian-era building from the 1890s. The building received the Berlin Architecture Prize in 2003 and is run as a family business by the architects themselves.

Guests can choose between the “Extroverted” and “Introverted” Lofts in the modern new wing or the “Classic” and “Compact” Lofts in the carefully renovated old building. The spacious Classic apartments, approximately 42 square meters, are located in a turn-of-the-century building and combine the charm of an old brick structure with distinctly modern furnishings. The modern “Extroverted” lofts impress with a spectacular, twelve-meter-long glass curtain wall facing south. As different as the apartments may be, the signature remains the same: The lofts were designed to make the stay in Berlin as personal as possible, with materials that reflect Berlin’s mix of elegance and coolness.

Central, quiet and perfectly equipped

The Miniloft Mitte is located right next to the Museum of Natural History, just a five-minute walk from the Reichstag and two tram stops from the main train station. Despite this central location, the immediate surroundings remain surprisingly quiet. Its location in the western part of Mitte, near the main train station as well as the galleries and nightlife around Torstraße, makes the hotel an excellent starting point for exploring the city.

What distinguishes the Miniloft Apartment Hotel Mitte from classic hotels is the concept of self-determined travel. The furnishings are hand-picked, simple, and tasteful, while offering everything needed for complete independence to truly live like a local. The kitchenette is fully equipped from coffee spoon to pasta strainer, and communal washing and drying machines are available, as are extras such as yoga mats or high chairs for children.
