For this selection I looked for houses where design is more than mere decoration. What mattered to me was a well thought out concept that runs all the way from the entrance into the room. I paid attention to clever details, a coherent level of design and the right location, so that both large houses and small, intimate addresses find their place.
Hotel Zoo Berlin on Kurfürstendamm in Charlottenburg is Berlin's elegant answer to the design boutique hotel: an 1891 Gründerzeit building, reinterpreted by US designer Dayna Lee, with 141 rooms, a legendary bar, and a rooftop terrace that showcases Berlin's rooftops on one level.
Hidden in a Wilhelminian old building on Weinbergsweg in Berlin-Mitte is one of the city's most remarkable design hotels: The Gorki Apartments combine Berlin living culture with boutique hotel comfort, without sacrificing anonymity.
