The Brooklyn is Berlin's most famous New York steak restaurant, hidden in a vaulted cellar on Köpenicker Straße in Mitte. Guests can look forward to US Prime Beef, a genuine Montague Grill, and an atmosphere that comes pretty close to Manhattan.
What’s on the table: US Prime Beef from Nebraska
The heart of The Brooklyn is steak in Berlin at the highest level. The restaurant consistently relies on US Prime Beef, sourced in the highest quality from the Midwest of the USA from GOP Greater Omaha Packers. The so-called cattle buyers work with farmers whose cattle spend the first eight months of their lives free-range on the pastures of Nebraska and South Dakota before being raised for 150 to 200 days on a corn mixture feed. It is precisely this corn that gives the meat its distinctive marbling and deep, harmonious flavor.
The selection of cuts is remarkable. The menu features master cuts such as Porterhouse, Tomahawk, T-Bone, Flank Steak, and Short Ribs from US Prime Beef. Rib Eye, Porterhouse, and Tomahawk receive additional aroma from preparation at up to 900 degrees Celsius on the US Montague Grill. What we found particularly interesting: You generally cannot order well done here. The meat is intended to arrive as it should be.
Side dishes include Pak Choi, American coleslaw, or sautéed kale. Those who don’t eat meat still don’t have to go without: Vegetables also hold a high priority at The Brooklyn, as shown by the purely vegetarian main courses, which are largely sourced from regional production.
The Restaurant: A Piece of New York in Mitte
In the magical triangle of KitKatClub, Jannowitzbrücke, and Märkisches Museum is The Brooklyn, which belongs to the adjacent boutique hotel The Dude. The ambiance of the vaulted cellar is friendly and reminiscent of a British club atmosphere. Under the direction of Executive Chef Andreas Peter, who previously worked for nine years as Executive Chef at the German Bundestag for Feinkost Käfer, the restaurant has developed into a real insider tip for steak lovers. The Brooklyn has also been recommended by the Michelin Restaurant Guide and the Prinz Guide Berlin with 5 stars. If you are looking for steak in Berlin at this level, you should make a reservation, as the restaurant is small and quickly booked out.
