Bar Tausend

The trendy restaurant Cantina at Bar Tausend on Schiffbauer Damm in Mitte is not easy to find. The entrance is hidden under the Friedrichstrasse S-Bahn arch. To get in, you have to ring the iron door with the number “11”, a doorman opens and asks for the necessary reservation. Once the first hurdle has been overcome, you pass through Bar Tausend into the backroom where the Cantina is located.

Here, guests are welcomed by a minimalist, black-designed dining room with an open kitchen, where dishes are prepared in front of the guests’ eyes. Culinarily, the Cantina combines Japanese, Iberian, and South American dishes. House specialties include “Miso Cod,” grilled cod marinated in miso paste, and “Tuna Tataki,” tuna with herb risotto and foie gras. However, Pimientos del Patron (fried green peppers seasoned with sea salt), Sashimi Salad, or U.S. Prime Beef steak are also available, for example.

For dessert, a warm chocolate cake is combined with green tea ice cream, or a crème brûlée is made from Japanese beans.
