What awaits me at the Spreewald Therme?
The Spreewald Therme complex is located in the heart of the UNESCO Spreewald Biosphere Reserve in the popular spa town of Burg. The centerpiece is the brine bath: The brine bath features six indoor pools, a warm outdoor pool with a current channel and bubbling loungers. What makes it special is the water itself. The brine water springs from a depth of 1,350 meters directly beneath the spa. The Spreewald brine is particularly rich in minerals and contains 239 g of minerals per liter, which corresponds to a concentration of 23.9 percent. This makes it one of the strongest natural brines in Germany. Those who enjoy floating in water should definitely visit the intensive brine pool: The 36-degree warm intensive brine pool has the highest salt concentration at 8%, allowing for what is known as “floating” in the water.
The SaunaGarten is also a real highlight. The sauna area invites you to sauna, relax, and linger on three floors. Various saunas with temperatures up to 95 degrees offer diverse possibilities. Hourly infusions in the Spreewald sauna with selected fragrances pamper the senses and invigorate the body. Those who prefer milder temperatures will also find what they’re looking for: The Sanarium operates at 57 degrees with changing colored light, and the aroma steam bath offers almost 100 percent humidity. Between sauna sessions, it’s easy to unwind: Freshly squeezed juices and refreshing drinks are available at the sauna bar, and two fireplaces as well as the relaxation room with a view of the sauna garden invite you to relax.
Spa, wellness and more: Is the trip worthwhile?
Definitely yes. And it’s not just us saying that. The Spreewald Therme took the top spot nationwide among classic thermal baths in the 2025 spa ranking by the online portal PraxisTipp. For this, the editorial team evaluated almost one million online reviews on Google and Tripadvisor. Furthermore, the spa has held an official title since 2025: In 2025, its development culminated in the official recognition as a “Thermal Brine Heilbad” (thermal brine healing spa). The awarding of this status by the Brandenburg State Secretary for Health represents a special honor.
In addition to the brine bath and sauna, the spa also scores with its wellness offerings. All treatments use products specially developed for the Spreewald Therme. The oils, creams, and ointments contain, among other things, cucumber, Spreewald brine, local herbs, and linseed oil. Those who wish to stay longer have a comfortable option: The Spreewald Therme is connected to the Spreewald Thermenhotel by a “bathrobe corridor,” and for hotel guests, the brine bath opens as early as 8:00 AM. Furthermore, the spa plans future investments: The hotel is to be modernized, and the outdoor area made more attractive. Finally, the ThermenRestaurant also focuses on quality: Young, modern, and healthy Spreewald cuisine characterizes the offerings, with particular emphasis on the selection of ingredients and fresh local produce topping the shopping list.
