Tempelhof

One of the most frequently used filming locations in the city is the already notorious Tempelhof Airport.

From 1923 to 2008, Tempelhof Airport was in operation. After that, the airport was primarily used by athletes, event organizers, and for filming.

The third-largest building in the world offers ample space for film sets. In 2001, it was a spacious police headquarters in “What to Do in Case of Fire?”, and a barracks in “The Captain of Köpenick”. In Billy Wilder’s “One, Two, Three”, the location is indeed what it once was: an airport. Guided tours of the area are very popular and should be booked in advance.

For the 2015 film “The Hunger Games – Mockingjay Part 2”, the airport served as a breathtaking backdrop. The main actors are Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth. In the film, the main building of Tempelhof Airport is heavily damaged, with polystyrene primarily used for the debris to illustrate the destruction. The empty airfield served as a backdrop for a demolished city.

Here you can book your guided tour through the historic Tempelhof Airport building in Berlin in just 30 seconds.
