The tranxx is at Akazienstrasse 27/28 in Schoeneberg, in the middle of the Akazienkiez among cafés, bookshops and the weekly market on Hauptstrasse. There are no customer parking spaces, but the area is densely built and easy to explore on foot, so a visit combines well with a stroll through the quarter. The house opened in July 2005, founded by Andrea Bosch, a trained psychologist, who built what was then the largest float centre in Germany. She came to floating through her own experiment: four years earlier she had lain in a salt water pool in London for the first time. In 2010 she was among the founders of a German floating association set up to accompany the method scientifically in this country. Unlike the big sauna complexes of the city, the house works not with heat but with silence and weightlessness, and there is neither a sauna nor a hamam. Anyone coming here books a fixed appointment and gets a room to themselves.

Floating Pool, Float Tank and Massage World

The floating pool at the tranxx measures 2.30 by 2.30 metres, which makes it roomier than the usual tanks. The water is 36 degrees and contains a 25 percent solution of Epsom salt, that is magnesium sulphate, which keeps the body at the surface. Each pool stands in its own room with its own shower, and guests decide for themselves whether they hear music or silence, whether the light stays on or the room goes dark; underwater music and underwater light can be switched on as well. Sessions are extended in quarter hour steps up to a maximum of three hours. Anyone who prefers the classic version uses the float tank for one person in a separate room. A single session in the pool costs 75 euros and 105 euros for two, and there is a three visit ticket for regulars. Alongside that stands the massage world with wellness, deep tissue, ayurveda and Lomi Lomi Nui massages, plus couple and pregnancy massages as well as courses in which couples learn to massage each other. The team works with organic massage oils, and water and tea are ready in the relax lounge.
