For this list, I looked for shops that offer individuality instead of mass-produced goods. I especially liked the places where something new is created from old materials or where old furniture gets a second chance. I paid attention to originality, craftsmanship quality and the question of whether a piece really has what it takes to become a favorite and give your home a signature of its own.
UpCycle Berlin builds custom-made furniture from old Berlin construction timber in its own studio at Moritzplatz. Only untreated, solid fir from demolitions and construction sites is processed, with patina, scratches and branding marks. A construction timber bed costs between 880 and 1,520 Euros depending on size, and a wood sample is sent on request.
stilraumberlin on Eldenaer Straße exclusively sells vintage furniture that is restored in its own workshop, focusing on Scandinavian design and teak. Since 2019, new lamps and home accessories have been added. Prices range from 195 Euros for a pendant lamp to 1,950 Euros for an oak card catalog cabinet. The owners have been in the trade for 17 years.
The interior design boutique kollwitz45 on Kollwitzstraße works exclusively with European brand manufacturers with traceable supply chains, including Thonet, Zanotta, Treku, and &tradition. In addition to the showroom, a complete interior design service with color, furniture, and lighting concepts is offered. Delivery within Germany is free for orders over 80 Euros.
At the Hotel ULTRA Concept Store on Torstraße, no guests check in, but products do: furniture, lights, and accessories are displayed in symbolic hotel rooms in the form of exhibition boxes. Brands like Kartell, Seletti, FRAMA, Jonathan Adler, and Gebrüder Thonet Vienna are featured. The selection remains small and changes regularly, and coffee is served.
o.k.-international on Alte Schönhauser Straße imports everyday items that are normal elsewhere but seem unusual here: enamelware, baskets, small furniture, lamps, and school posters from India. Hand-blown glass from Afghanistan is a special focus. The store between Hackesche Höfe and Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz has been open since 1997.
LIVING Berlin on Kantstraße brings together around 40 interior design stores and brand showrooms across five floors, from flooring, kitchens, and upholstered furniture to lighting and sound systems. Brands represented include Vitra, USM, Ligne Roset, Roche Bobois, Poggenpohl, and Bang & Olufsen, among others. There is a dedicated car park in the basement.
Frau Wunderwald spans 450 square meters over two levels in a heritage-listed hall in a Wedding courtyard, filled with restored vintage furniture, lamps and decor from Mid-Century to Space Age. Shop and workshop sit under one roof, the assortment changes weekly, and delivery within Berlin is free of charge twice a week.
Since 2018, Furniture Garden on Alt-Moabit has offered Scandinavian vintage furniture from the fifties to the seventies, featuring over 300 pieces by Hans Wegner, Niels Otto Møller, Arne Vodder, Peter Hvidt, and Kurt Østervig. Upholstery and woodworking workshops are on-site; each piece is inspected and restored before sale, and covers can be replaced upon request.
Schoenhauser-Design has been offering new and used design classics since 1997 on Rosenthaler Straße, spanning over 200 square meters, including originals by Charles Eames, Egon Eiermann, and Arne Jacobsen. Additionally, they feature lamps, ceramics, and textiles from Scandinavian manufacturers and Berlin workshops. A vintage chair starts at around 130 Euros.
KLEIN-HOLZ, the children's furniture store on Bamberger Straße, has been an owner-managed family business since 1982, offering beds, tables, chairs, wardrobes, and shelves from Moll, LIFETIME, Oliver Furniture, Manis-h, and Flexa. The showroom is complemented by an in-house delivery service, storage of ordered goods, and an in-house assembly service.
