Furniture Garden

Since 2018, Furniture Garden on Alt-Moabit has offered Scandinavian vintage furniture from the fifties to the seventies, featuring over 300 pieces by Hans Wegner, Niels Otto Møller, Arne Vodder, Peter Hvidt, and Kurt Østervig. Upholstery and woodworking workshops are on-site; each piece is inspected and restored before sale, and covers can be replaced upon request.
Danish Classics on Alt-Moabit
Anyone looking for Scandinavian furniture design from the post-war decades will eventually find themselves on Alt-Moabit in Berlin. Furniture Garden has been there since 2018, and the shop has consistently focused on one era: vintage furniture from the fifties to the seventies from Denmark and its neighboring countries, with over three hundred pieces available at any given time, according to their own statements. The names on the labels read like a directory of Danish modernism, from Hans Wegner and Niels Otto Møller to Arne Vodder and Peter Hvidt and Kurt Østervig. The price range is accordingly wide: a chair based on Møller’s Model 55 costs 1,195 Euros, while a sideboard by Arne Vodder can cost ten times that. In between, you’ll find many pieces that make entry into this world of furniture affordable. The shop is located on a busy street, but it feels quiet inside, and the pieces are arranged so that you can view them from all sides before making a decision.
On-site Upholstery and Woodworking Workshop
The difference from a pure dealer lies in the workshops. Furniture Garden maintains its own upholstery shop and woodworking workshop, and every piece goes through them before it goes on sale: inspected, refurbished, and, if necessary or desired, re-upholstered and re-covered. If someone wants an armchair in a different fabric, they can discuss this before buying and get it to fit their own living room. The workshop now also accepts external commissions, meaning it repairs furniture that does not come from the shop. For those looking for a specific model, there are search requests: the team keeps an eye out and gets in touch when the piece appears. Shipping is available throughout Europe, so pieces from the online inventory also find their way outside Berlin. Bus lines stop directly in front of the door on Kirchstraße, and the tram a little further at Kriminalgericht Moabit. This means the shop can be reached from Mitte and Charlottenburg in just a few minutes, which is quite important when buying furniture that involves multiple visits.
