Gedenkstätte Hohenschönhausen

Mainly political opponents of the SED were imprisoned here. Even regime critics from West Berlin were abducted and brought here! Visitors can take guided tours to see the cells, as well as other areas such as the prison hospital or the so-called “tiger cages” – areas completely shielded with chain-link fence in the prison yard. Contemporary witnesses recount their experiences in the correctional facility.
